Ripe Mango with dry shrimp curry/ ಪಿಕೆ ಆಂಬೆ ಆನಿ ಗಾಂಲ್ಬ್ಯಾಚಿ ಕಡಿ


This unique  flavoured curry reminds me monsoon days spent with my parents and siblings ! 

What a flavourful curry relished with boiled rice ! Yum, yum, yummy!!

The flavour of ripe mangoes with the divine aroma of roasted shrimps was spread all over the kitchen. 

This curry is a mixture of different flavours. It's spicy, tangy, sweet & so aromatic!

Boiled rice with this flavourful curry is an excellent combo!


Wild mangoes/ Kaat ambe

Wild mangoes ( called as ' kaat ambe' in konkani ) are used in this recipe. These Mangoes have unique flavour and taste which makes this dish so yummy.

This recipe i learnt from my mom but I  hardly prepare as my sons don't like the smell of dry fish.  

Recipe is easy.  Needs  very few basic ingredients available at home. 

Try this easy , tasty recipe. 

Please note:

Use few chillies as this curry turns spicy soon. 

Use spices as per your choice.

If the mangoes are sweet, no need to add jaggery. 

You can add any other dry fish of your choice. But tastes awesome with dry shrimps. 

Use good quality wild mangoes for this recipe. 

Recipe:

Ingredients:


  • 8-10 ripe mangoes 
  • 1/2 cup dry shrimps 
  • 1 tbsp ghee or coconut oil
  • 1/2 sliced onion fir seasoning 
  • Salt to taste 
  • Small piece of jaggery 

Ingredients for the masala:

  • 3 red long chillies 
  • 2 red short chillies 
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds 
  • 1/3 tsp jeera
  • 1/4 tsp pepper 
  • Pinch of methi seeds/ Fenugreek 
  • Pinch of mustard seeds 
  • Pinch of turmeric powder 
  • Tiny pinch of ajwain 
  • Little tamarind 
  • 1 medium onion 
  • 4 flakes of garlic 
  • 1 cup coconut 

Method:




Grind all the above ingredients for masala to a fine paste. 



Wash & clean dry shrimps atleast 3-4 times to remove sand and dust particles. 

Drain & keep aside. 

Wash & clean ripe mangoes. 
Peel the skin & keep aside.

Add  1 cup water to the skin & mash well. 

Heat  1 tb sp ghee or coconut oil in a cooking pan, add sliced onion. Fry till brown.
 

Add dry shrimps. Fry for 1 minute till aromatic. 

Add ground masala paste. 


Mix well. Add mangoes. 

Add masala water, 1/2 cup mango skin pulp , salt to taste. Mix well. 
Cover & cook for 5 minutes. Add a small  piece of jaggery only if required. 

Cover & cook for another 5-8 minutes. 


Delicious , super flavourful mango curry with dry shrimps is ready to serve. 


Tastes awesome with boiled rice with any side dish. 
It's tangy, sweet, spicy & so delicious.
