Mogem Losun -Miri/ Field Marrow Garlic -Pepper Curry  with jackfruit Seeds 


This flavourful curry reminds me my childhood days . Mom used to cook this often as our relatives from villages used to get lots of Field Marrows. Mom used to hang these field marrows in our store room & used prepare different varieties of dishes using this vegetable. 

This is a very quick and easy curry which doesn't need any grinding work.  

Mom used to do it easily using bafat powder & we used to relish this curry with boiled rice and fried fish/ dry fish chutney or any meat dry dish. 

This is a very simple easy dish which can be prepared by any beginners.

Please note:




Select good quality field marrow . 

Add a piece of jaggery to enhance the taste. 

Add masala powder as per your choice.

Here i have used jackfruit seeds. You can add or skip if you wish. 


Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg field marrow 
  • 1-2 tbsp coconut oil
  • Pinch of mustard 
  • Few curry leaves
  • 5 -6 crushed garlic flakes 
  • 1 medium size chopped onion 
  • 1 chopped tomato 
  • 1 small piece of jaggery ( as required)
  • 1 tbsp Bafat powder ( as required)
  • Salt to taste
  • 6-8 jackfruit seeds

Method:




Wash field marrow & cut it into half.
 


Taste the pith. If it is sweet & sour you can just scrape the pith roughly and add it to the sieve. ( Keep the sieve  above  any bowl) . 



The juice of this pith can be added to the gravy. 



If the pith is bitter then remove the pith using a knife. Or else the curry turns bitter. Don't leave any seeds or pith portion. 



Cut field marrow into 1/2" -1" cubes. 



Crush jackfruit seeds with the help of a morsel. 



Remove the skin & add it to a pressure cooker. Add 1/2 cup water & pressure cook for 2 whistles & keep aside. 



Heat oil in a cooking pan for the seasoning. 

Add mustard, curry leaves, crushed garlic, & chopped onion. 

Fry till slight brown. 



Add tomato. Fry well. 
Add bafat powder. Mix well. 



Fry for 2 minutes.

Add field marrow pieces. Add juice collected from pith. 
Add required quantity water, jaggery piece or powder, salt to taste. 
Mix well. Cover & cook for 10-12 minutes. 

My mom used to crush few pieces with the help of wooden spoon made with coconut shell( doi). Here i have used potato masher. This process will help to make the gravy slightly thicker.

Add boiled jackfruit seeds . Mix well & cook for another  2 minutes. 


Delicious Mogem Losun -Miri curry with jackfruit Seeds is ready to serve.
