Sungta Losun -Miri / Prawn & Potato Curry 


This curry reminds me my childhood days. Mom used to prepare this often and the divine aroma used to spread all over the kitchen. 

This curry has a unique flavour of mixed spices & prawns, awesome taste and a wonderful aroma. 

As the name indicates, garlic and pepper ( losun- miri) are the prime ingredients. Don't skip these ingredients. 

This curry i learnt from my mother but i add few extra spices to make this curry still more flavourful. 

This yummy  dish goes very well with boiled rice. Tastes awesome with neer dosa/ panpole or dosa too. 

Very few basic ingredients  available in the pantry are required to prepare this dish. 

Try this simple  , easy, delicious recipe. 


Please note:

You can either use kashmiri chillies or Byadagi chillies. Don't use spicy chillies as  good amount of pepper is added for the masala. 

Use spices as per your choice. 

You can add few carrot pieces too if you wish. 

Try to use ghee for seasoning or else coconut oil. 


Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 400 gms of prawns
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 medium size chopped tomatoes 
  • Pinch of sugar 

Ingredients for the masala: 

  • 2 medium size onion 
  • 2 tbsp coconut 
  • 1/2 tsp pepper 
  • 1/2 tsp jeera( cumin)
  • 4 -5 kashmiri red chillies ( or Byadagi)
  • 1 red short chilly
  • Little turmeric powder 
  • Pinch of mustard 
  • Pinch of fennel seeds
  • 2 cloves 
  • 1/4" cinnamon 
  • 5-6 garlic cloves 
  • 1/4" ginger. 
  • Little tamarind 

Ingredients for seasoning:

  • 1 small sliced onion 
  • 4-5 crushed garlic flakes 
  • 1 tbsp ghee/ coconut oil

Method:


Wash, clean & devein prawns. 
Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt to taste & marinate for half  an hour.

Grind all the masala ingredients to a fine paste. 


Heat ghee in a vessel. 
Add  sliced onion , crushed garlic & fry till brown.

Add chopped tomato. Fry for 2 minutes. 

Add masala paste. Fry for 3-4 minutes. 

Add marinated prawns. Mix well. 

Add masala water , potato  pieces, salt to taste, pinch of sugar. 


Mix well & cook for 8-10 minutes . 


Delicious prawn losun -mirin curry is ready. 


This curry is so glossy & super tasty. 

Tastes awesome with boiled rice .
