Bafat Powder
Bafat powder/ bafat pito ( konkani word) is a flavourful spice mix powder which is used in many recipes in mangalorean catholic cuisine.
It's a must-have masala powder in almost every mangalorean catholic home.
It's a spicy, aromatic & flavourful mixture of dried and ground spices.
This masala powder used in different types of meat / fish preparations.
Bafat powder is also used in the preparation of few spicy vegetarian dishes.
This masala powder is mainly used in the preparation of Pork bafat which is one of the most loved dishes among every catholic home.
Bafat powder along with garam masala powder is used in different types of meat sukka and curry recipes.
It is used in different sea food preparations too. Add little ginger garlic paste, vinegar/ lemon juice, salt to bafat powder, mix well & marinate fish, meat or prawns and shallow fry. Tastes divine!
Here, I have mentioned the measurement for a small quantity bafat powder. You can prepare the quantity as per your requirement. You can make this in huge batch and store in an airtight container.
This powder can be prepared easily with few basic ingredients which are easily available at home.
Please note:
Here i have used byadagi chillies. You can add few Kashmiri chillies too for the colour.
Sundried spices can be powdered easily as they turn crispy.
Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 12-15 long red dried chillies( byadagi)
- 4 red short ( guntur) chillies
- 2 tbsp coriander seeds
- 1 tsp jeera
- 1 tsp pepper
- Pinch of mustard
- Pinch of turmeric
- 4-5 cloves
- 1" cinnamon stick
- 1 star anise
- 1 small bay leaf
- 1 tsp poppy seeds( optional)
