Black Chana Sukka/ Sonay suke/ kadle sukka

Black Chana Sukka/Sonay suke/ Kadle Sukka

Another delicious vegetarian dish on a harvest feast ( monthi fest) menu is Black chana sukka/ Sonay suke/kadle sukka.

This healthy, protine rich dish goes very well  with chapathies, rotis or as a side dish with any veg or non- veg meal.

It's a mixture of sweet & spicy flavours and tastes awesome  even with plain ganji ( pez),  boiled rice.

Please note:

Here i used bafat powder. Recipe link is mentioned below:

Here is my easy recipe for this delicious dish.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 250 gms black chana soaked overnight
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 medium onion (sliced)
  • 5 flakes of garlic (crushed)
  • Pinch of mustard
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 tsp bafat powder
  • 1 tsp sambar powder
  • Pinch of garam masala powder
  • 2 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • Small piece of jaggery
  • 2 tbsp ghee or oil
  • Salt to taste.

Method:

Wash and soak black chana for 8-10 hours. Drain the water & keep it aside.

Heat ghee/oil in a pressure cooker. Add mustard , onion, garlic, curry leaves & fry for 2-3 minutes.
Add chopped tomato, masala powders & mix well.

Add coconut. Mix well & fry for another 1 minute.

Add soaked  & drained chana, tamarind pulp, salt to taste. 1 cup water. Mix well.

Cover & pressure cook for 10-12 minutes. ( I don't count whistles)
Once the pressure  is released, check whether it is boiled well. If not, cook again for another 2-3 minutes.

Delicious chana sukka is ready.

Its one of the delicious dishes on a harvest feast menu.

Enjoy this dish with your loved ones.
