CRAB CURRY ( WITH RAW MANGO)


Crab curry , sukka or crab masala is one of the most loved delicacies among seafood lovers. 

My mom used to make awesome crab curry which was loved by everyone but cracking its shell to remove meat  was a  very difficult task and  we always used to take a longer time to finish our lunch or dinner.  

Crab curry tastes awesome when raw mango or bimbli fruit is added  to the gravy.  The sour & acidic taste of raw mango or bimbli fruit makes this curry richer & tastier. 

The coconut and spices added to the masala , gives unique flavour & taste to this dish.  The spicy, tangy, flavourful gravy makes anyone to fall in love with this tasty dish. 

PLEASE NOTE: Add spices as per your preference. We prefer less spicy food.  Use only required quantity tamarind as we use raw mango in this recipe which has sour taste.  


RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:

A. FOR MASALA:

  • 6 red long chillies (byadagi)
  • 3 short (guntur) chillies
  • 1 tbsp coriander
  • Pinch of mustard
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • Pinch of Fenugreek
  • 1 large onion
  • 5 flakes of garlic
  • 1/2 coconut ( as required)
  •  Little turmeric
  • Tamarind to taste. 

OTHER INGREDIENTS 

  • 8-10 medium size crabs
  • 1 raw mango ( roughly chopped)
  • 1 sliced onion
  • Salt to taste

METHOD:


Select fresh crabs. 
Wash well, remove outer shell , break off the claws, cut the end part of legs, clean well and cut into two pieces. 

Grind all the ingredients mentioned under masala to a fine paste. 

Take a deep wide cooking vessel.  Add 1 tbsp coconut oil.  Slightly roast 1 sliced onion, add raw mango pieces & mix well for 1 minute. 

Add masala & mix well.  Add masala water & adjust the thickness of the gravy.  

Add salt to taste and boil well. 

Add cleaned crab pieces. Mix well. Cover & cook for 5-8 minutes. 

Delicious, flavourful crab curry is ready. 

Tastes awesome with boiled  rice and any vegetable side dish.
