FISH ROE/FISH EGGS FRY

FISH ROE/ FISH EGGS FRY

This is one of the best enjoyed sea food delicacies of coastal region.

This roe is found mostly in monsoon season when fish lay  eggs. It is called as Gaboli in Marathi, maslechi paer in konkani.

My father never  missed a chance to buy this whenever it was available in local fish market.

Fish eggs are rich source of omega 3 fatty acids & vitamin B 12 & hence considered as a healthy food.

These are prepared in different ways &  Bengali cuisine is famous for different varieties of sweet water fish roe dishes.

The soft grainy texture gives unique taste to this dish and makes it  super delicious .  This can be served  as an appetizer,  side dish with rice or with chapathies .

Mullet fish roe

I got this mullet fish roe from my local fish vendor which is  yellow in colour.

Here is a very simple  & delicious way to prepare this dish.

RECIPE:

For Fish roe/fish eggs around 400 gms

INGREDIENTS FOR MASALA

  • 2-3 tsp red chilly powder ( use as per your choice)
  • 1/4tsp pepper powder
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Few chopped curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp rice flour.

METHOD:

Carefully clean the fish roe , make sure that the  eggs do not come out of the membrane.

I prefer frying the slices. Its difficult to cut fresh roe as the eggs  can come out of the membrane & it is a messy job to handle.  I boil it adding 1/2 cup of water with pinch of turmeric & salt.

Boil it for 5 minutes till all water dries up.

Make masala paste of all the ingredients mentioned above. Add little water to get this consistency.

Cool fish roe & cut into desired slices.

Apply masala on both sides & keep it aside for 15-20 minutes.

Shallow fry using 2 tbsp oil.

Fry only for 1-2 minutes on each side as it's already cooked.  Overcooked roe will turn hard & dry.

Delicious, juicy fish roe fry is ready.
Enjoy with your loved ones.
