Jhatpat fish curry

Fish is one of the healthiest food on this planet. Its loaded with important nutrients like protein & vitamin D. Its a great source of Omega 3 fatty acids which is excellent  for body & brain. 


Fish can be consumed in different ways. 

Here is a very simple, quick & easy recipe to prepare delicious fish curry. 

This requires minimum ingredients available at home.  All you need is ground coconut paste & few masala powders. 


Butter fish curry.

Recipe:

I have taken around 12 fish pieces. This curry can be made with any large fish. I have done this using 2 different fish. 

1.Butter fish/melug in tulu/ darya denklo in konkani

2. Black pomfret/ kappu manji in tulu/sorngul in konkani.


Ingredients for  fish marination:

  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • Pinch of turmeric powder. 

Ingredients for grinding:

  • 1/2 small size coconut
  • Little tamarind

Ingredients for masala:

A

  • 1 large sliced onion
  • 8 flakes of chopped garlic 
  • 1/2" ginger( chopped)
  • 2 green chillies( slit)
  • 1 large chopped tomato

B

  • 2 tbsp Kashmiri Red chilly powder
  • 1tbsp coriander powder
  • 1tsp jeera power
  • 1/4tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste

STEP 1

Marinate fish with all ingredients under fish marination & keep aside for 1 hour. 

 

STEP 2:

Grind coconut & tamarind to a fine paste

STEP 3:

Heat  2 tbsp coconut oil in a cooking vessel & add all the chopped ingredients(except tomato) mentioned under A. Fry well. Add tomato & fry well. 

STEP 4

Add all the masal powders mentioned under B & fry well.

STEP 5:

Add coconut paste & mix well.  

STEP 6:

Add required quantity water, salt to taste & boil well. Add fish pieces & boil for 2- 3 minutes. 

STEP 7:

Delicious fish curry is ready.

I have done this curry using Black pomfret fish.
