Chicken Curry/Kori Gassi


This is my sons favourite coconut curry.  Goes very well with panpole, sanna or apa. 

INGREDIENTS FOR MASALA

(for 1 kg chicken)
  •  7-8 kashmiri red chillies
  •  2 red short chillies ( use as per ur taste)
  •  2 tbsp coriander seeds
  •  1tsp jeera
  •  1tsp pepper
  •  3 cloves
  •  1/2" cinnamon
  •  1/4tsp turmeric powder
  •  small lemon size tamarind
  •  2 cups grated coconut( use as per ur requirements
  •  6 flakes of garlic
  •  2 large  sliced onions ( keep 1/4th aside for seasoning)
  •  4 stems of curry leaves (2 for grinding, 2 for seasoning)

METHOD

Dry roast all the spices one by one.

Heat 1 tsp. Heat 1 tsp oil & fry onion with garlic till light brown. 

Heat 1 tbsp oil & roast coconut with 2 stems curry leaves  on a low flame till you get good aroma.  Grind all these to fine paste along with tamarind.

Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a deep pan, add sliced onions & fry till golden brown. Add 2 stem curry leaves, add ground masala paste. Fry for 5-6 mnts. Add masala water & add chicken pieces, add salt to taste, add required quantity water. Cover & cook till its done.  (You can add potatoes too if you wish )

Delicious chicken curry is ready.

  6. Delicious! Does the onions need to be grounded after frying or just the coconut with curry leaves?

    1. Onion & garlic fried together should be ground along with spices & coconut.
