Squid Sukka

Squid sukka

Squid is eaten in many cuisines. The culinary name 'calamari' is often used for squid dishes.

Squid is a good source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, iron and calcium.

There are many ways to prepare squid dishes. It can be roasted, fried, baked or cooked as a dry or semi dry dish.  Among all varieties, my family just loves this sukka dish.

This dish can be served as an appetizer or as a side dish with any meal. Tastes awesome with chapathi, roti or neeru dosa.

I prefer this simple easy way of preparation where no grinding is required.

Here is my way of preparing this sukka dish.

Please note:

Use spices and masala powders as per your choice.

Squid takes very less time to cook. Overcooked squid turns rubbery.

I have used Bafat powder here. Recipe for bafat powder is in the following link:

Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg squid
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 medium size chopped onion
  • 1 tsp chopped ginger & garlic
  • 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 slit green chillies
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Bafat powder ( as required)
  • 1/2 tsp pepper powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1-2 tsp tamarind pulp.
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing.

Method:

Use fresh Squid.
Clean squid well and thoroughly wash the inside of the squid body tube. Cut into round rings

Heat 2 tbsp oil, add onion. Fry for 2 minutes. Add ginger garlic paste. Fry till raw smell disappears.
Add green chillies, chopped ginger, garlic, curry leaves. Saute for another 1 minute.

Add all the masala powders one by one.

Add tomato, tamarind pulp & coconut. Mix well.

Add squid. Mix well, cover & cook just for 2 minutes.

Do not add any water as squid releases water while cooking.

Add few chopped coriander leaves & mix well.  Cook on a high flame for another 1 minute.

Delicious squid sukka is ready.

Perfectly cooked squid is tender & so delicious. Overcooked squid turns rubbery & tough to bite.

Tastes awesome  as a side with any meal or with chapathi, roti or neeru dosa/ panpole.

Enjoy this delicious dish with your loved ones.
