KUBE THEL PIYAO/ CLAMS CURRY


This is a very simple, easy, tasty dish which we used to enjoy during our childhood days.  

'Thel' in konkani means oil & 'piyao'  means onion. The soup of this gravy is enriched with the flavours of onion & oil. Pure coconut oil gives awesome flavour to this dish. 

This delicious dish needs few basic ingredients available at home & can be prepared easily without any ground masala paste. 

This dish has a unique flavour & taste of clams & the soup is so delicious to relish with rice( congee).

Please note:
Make sure to select fresh clams. 
Use chillies as per your choice. 


RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2Kg fresh clams
  • 2 medium size sliced onions
  • 3 green chillies ( slit)
  • 6 garlic flakes (chopped)
  • 1/2" ginger (chopped)
  • 1 medium size tomato
  • Pinch of mustard
  • Pinch of turmeric powder
  • 1 spring curry leaves 
  • 2tbsp coconut oil. 
  • Salt to taste. 

METHOD:


Select fresh clams. 

Wash & rinse the clams atleast 4-5 times. Add 1 tbsp salt & soak in water for 1/2 an hour. 

Discard all the opened and spoilt clams. 

Wash again & keep aside. 

Heat 2 tbsp oil in a cooking pan. Add mustard, allow it to crackle. Add curry leaves, onion, garlic, ginger, chillies. Mix well for 1 minute. 

Add tomatoes, mix well. Cover & cook for 2 minutes. 

Add clams.

Add 1 cup of water. Salt to taste. Mix well. Cover & cook for 5-8  minutes. 

Delicious clams thel piyao is ready to serve. 
Some add grated coconut to this. But i prefer this way. 

The soup of this dish is truly so delicious. 


Tastes awesome with rice( congee)/pez. 

You don't need any other side dish with this flavourful dish.
