CHATPATA ALOO/BABY POTATOES

CHATPATA ALOO/ BABY POTATOES

This is a super delicious and super easy dish which can be served as a side dish with rice and dal or  with chapathies or can be enjoyed as an appetizer or  a quick snack.

I would rather call it as 'Jatpat aloo' as this dish can be prepared within 5 minutes if the boiled and peeled baby potatoes are kept ready.

This spicy, tangy, chatpata dish can be enjoyed by anyone , especially the kids and is an ideal snack in their lunch box.

Here is a quick & easy recipe:

Please use spices as per your choice. Use less salt as the chat masala used in this recipe also contains salt.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 kg baby potatoes
  • 1-2 tbsp ghee/oil
  • 1  finely chopped medium size
  • onion
  • 1/4 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp jeera
  • Few coriander leaves for garnishing.

For masala:

  • 3/4 tsp red chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp jeera powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
  • A fat pinch of kasoori methi
  • 1/8 tsp amchur powder or 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/4tsp pepper powder
  • 1/4 tsp chat masala
  • Salt to taste

METHOD:

Wash baby potatoes 2-3 times. Add required quantity water & boil in pressure cooker. ( Take only one whistle. Allow the pressure to release completely)

Cool & peel the potatoes.
( Peeling work becomes easy if you add cold water to the hot potatoes)

Heat 1 -2 tbsp ghee/oil in a cooking pan.  Add jeera , wait for it to splutter, add onion, fry till its translucent. Add ginger garlic paste. Fry.

Add all the masala powders mentioned above one by one.  Mix well.

Add boiled potatoes & mix.

Gently toss  & cook till everything is well combined.

Delicious, chatpata aloo is ready.  Sprinkle little coriander leaves and serve hot.

Its tangy, spicy & chatpati.
Enjoy with your loved ones.
