Tulu style chicken curry


Tulu Nadu region is famous for its spicy, aromatic meat & fish curries. People here love spicy coconut based gravies. 

This Coconut based chicken curry is one of the iconic dishes of Tulu Nadu.

This delectable chicken gravy flavoured with aromatic roasted spices and coconut is best enjoyed with mangalorean special super soft sannas, appams, neeru dosa or can be served with plain rice. 

Please note:Use spices as per your requirements. 


RECIPE:

For 1 kg chicken 

INGREDIENTS FOR MASALA:

A

  • 1 -2 Cups of coconut
  • 1 large sliced onion
  • 6-8 garlic flakes

B

  • 7-8 Kashmiri red  chillies
  • 2-3 red short chillies (guntur)
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1/2tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp pepper corns
  • Pinch of methi seeds
  • 3 cloves
  • 1/2" cinnamon stick

C

  • Little turmeric powder
  • Tamarind as per your choice

METHOD:

Step 1:


Heat 1 tsp coconut oil in a pan & roast all the ingredients under A on a slow flame till you get good aroma. 

Step 2:


Heat 1 tbsp coconut oil & roast all ingredients under B till slight brown. 

Step 3:


Mix all the roasted ingredients & fry for 1 minute. Cool. Add ingredients under C.

Step 4:


Grind masala to a fine paste.

Step 5:


Heat 2 tbsp ghee, add 1 sliced onion fry, add few curry leaves. Add ground masala, fry for 1 minute. Add masala water, cleaned chicken pieces, salt to taste & cook till done.  You can add little coconut milk at the end if you wish for better taste. 


Delicious chicken curry is ready. 


Serve hot with super soft sannas.
